Sustainable development at the SV Group

We have been passionately committed to the well-being of our guests for more than 110 years. In our more than 500 restaurants and hotels, we welcome, entertain and accommodate tens of thousands of people every day. That’s why we see it as our responsibility to make a significant contribution to healthy nutrition and to promoting environmental sustainability – even beyond our company’s boundaries. We also want to be a responsible, honest and fair employer for our employees, where everyone can feel at ease.

Comprehensive strategy

We pursue sustainability as comprehensively as possible and take into account all the relevant social and environmental impacts that arise from our activities in the hospitality and catering industry – from climate protection and the supply chain to production and our responsibility as an employer, as well as the contribution we make to society. We are continuously developing our sustainability strategy in close collaboration with our partners. Our objectives and measures are scientifically sound, measurable and transparent in order to make an effective contribution.

Our promise

We will reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050

We are continuously expanding our sustainable sourcing and reducing food waste to no more than 5% of purchases

We continuously strive to be the most attractive employer in the industry

We promote the health of society through our own activities and beyond.

Climate protection

To promote climate protection, we take action in a number of ways: experience shows that we can achieve the biggest impact in our catering business by expanding our plant-based range and continuously reducing food waste. In the hotel industry, we pay particular attention to energy-efficient buildings, resource-saving practices and the use of smart technologies.

Supply chain & production

In our industry, the majority of the environmental impact does not arise within our operational processes, but in the upstream supply chains. For example, in the production of food for our restaurants or furniture for our hotels. We also face ethical and social challenges throughout the supply chain. Through strategic purchasing, we specifically promote the procurement of goods that meet our environmental and social standards.

Responsible employer

As a responsible employer, we are committed to offering our employees an attractive and healthy working environment. This includes continuously improving our employment conditions and offering a respectful corporate culture in which everyone can feel welcome. We also provide numerous apprenticeship positions for up-and-coming talent every year and offer our existing employees many opportunities for internal development.

Added value for society

Our social mission and our 110-year tradition are part of our DNA: As a foundation that acts as a holding company and majority shareholder of the SV Group, the SV Foundation ensures that our social responsibility is firmly anchored. As a grant-making foundation, we support projects that raise awareness of the issues of sustainable and healthy nutrition among the population. In addition, as a corporate citizen, we want to use strategic partnerships such as with WWF Switzerland to help establish these issues more firmly in society.

Reporting on sustainability

Our sustainability strategy also includes communicating our measures and their results openly and transparently. We do this in the form of an annual progress report.
